If you are heading to Galveston, Texas to take a cruise then you may feel like you are about to venture into something really difficult to handle such as the Galveston cruise port. Honestly, dealing with a cruise port is not that difficult, but it can be overwhelming if you have never done it before. After several cruises out of Galveston, I have figured out several tips that can help you when going to the port and getting ready to leave for your cruise. One of the Galveston cruise ports is located at 2502 Harborside Dr in Galveston and the other one is at 2702 Harborside Dr.
Parking
For one, there are several ways to park when you go on a cruise when at the Port of Galveston. Some hotels allow you to leave your car at the hotel for free, but this won’t be covered parking. There are also various parking garages that you can find as you drive toward the port. Every time we go, we book parking ahead of time to make sure we get indoor parking with security. We have used Galveston Park N Cruise more than once and are always happy with them. It is right across the street from the Carnival port. Just do your research and figure out your plan before you leave home. If you don’t, lots will be full and this can cause a lot of unneeded stress on your trip.
Dealing with Your Luggage
Once you arrive at the Port of Galveston, the easiest way to do things is to have your driver drop off the rest of the party, along with their luggage. They can pull right up to the port and drop you off. Then you will want to find someone pushing around a cart to take your luggage for you. You simply tip them, and they will cart your luggage off for you to the correct loading area. Our first few cruises we did this ourselves and it was a huge pain, so pay the tip and save yourself some stress. Make sure that you keep your luggage that has your wine or beverages in it with you. This will have to be checked before you board the cruise ship. If you have luggage tags, this will make it a lot easier to make sure your luggage is marked correctly and ends up at your room as planned.
After the luggage is dropped off and the rest of your party that parked the car arrives, it is time to walk into the cruise terminal and get in line for your vacation.
Follow the Signs
When you show up, you will simply want to follow the signs and make sure you look for the right cruise ship. Various ships and companies port out of the Galveston cruise port so make sure you go to the right area and drop off your luggage at the correct spot. If you don’t, then you will have a pretty long walk to get to the next area for the correct ship.
