Recently we took a family trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado. We had a group of five of us. The ages were from 12 to 60. We did several different activities in just the few short days we were there. Here are some of the fun things we did on our trip.
Enjoying the Outdoors
There are so many things to do in Colorado Springs that are outside. We checked out the Garden of the Gods on our first day there. You can hike in this area, but we just drove through and enjoyed the scenery. It is hard to find a parking spot along the way for pictures. If you are up for hiking, that is the best way to do it.
We spent several hours one day driving up Pike’s Peak. It is an amazing view along the way. When we went, they had construction going on so we didn’t get to stop at the top. Hopefully, next time it is done so we can enjoy the view and try the donuts I hear are so amazing! You pay one price for the entire car to go up.
There are several various waterfalls in the area. We checked out Rainbow Falls, which used to be called Graffiti Falls. It was nice, but the water was freezing. We took our shoes off and waded through it.
Royal Gorge was one other place we got the chance to visit. It is great to see, but don’t go when it is busy. We had to wait in line for about an hour and a half to ride across. We then walked the bridge back. The lines for the zipline and other activities were just too long to stand in with the heat.
The Manitou Cliff Dwellings were great to visit, but don’t plan on it taking much of your day. We were in and out of here in about an hour.
Head to Cripple Creek
No, it isn’t actually Colorado Springs, but Cripple Creek isn’t far away. In this town, you can find the donkeys that actually belong to the city. They roam around town and will let you feed them.
While in Cripple Creek, we had to visit the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine Tour. Going down into what used to be a working gold mine was so much fun.
Fun Activities
Of course, Colorado Springs has so much to do we couldn’t fit it in one weekend. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo looks like a blast! Cave of the Winds is something else we just couldn’t fit into our schedule.
